What you will gain from this course
The lack of good process hazard analysis has contributed to more than 50% of all major incidents in recent history and is often listed as the cause or contributory cause in CSB investigations. In this course you will learn that HAZID does not start when you all sit down at the table and does not end when you get up at the end of the last node. This course will show what best industry practice is and what international standard compliance looks like. This course aims to show you how easy it is to complete a HAZID and how the technique if applied diligently can yield very useful risk reduction recommendations.
Course Facilitator
Meet Louise Whiting your course facilitator. Louise has over 11 years of experience in major oil and gas operators (BP and Shell). She is a Chartered member of the IChemE and holds the Professional Process Safety Engineer status from the institute. She has extensive experience in operations as well as experience in wells and projects. Majority of this experience is in upstream oil and gas onshore, offshore, North Sea and Iraq. She transitioned to technical or process safety just after achieving chartered status and has experience applying her skills in a range of environments. Louise is a Fellow of the Safety and Reliability Society, Chair 2022/23, Membership Chair. Louise holds a variety of qualifications including chartership, professional process safety engineer and certified functional safety engineer. Louise was managing director of Barberton Limited for 3 years then moving to found Deedah PSM Ltd in 2023.

Useful information to support the use of HAZID methodology
Escalation of propane incident
In this incident the location of the worker relative to the other bottles and another worker significantly contributed to the severity of the incident.
Electrical fire escalation
An examination of the location hazards could have identified the requirement for a fire resistant door before the incident.
Risk Assessment
This guidance from the HSE specifies the responsibility for risk assessment as lying with the employer.

How do I join the session?

What is the difference between Location and Activity HAZID?
The activity HAZID is the main designed workshop with this session. It uses HAZID guidewords on an activity. However, the traditional application of HAZID in a facility would be on a location basis therefore there is an example to allow this to be demonstrated.
What if I can’t make the date anymore?
If you let us know on the contact email address 2 weeks before the training date then there will be no charge and you will be given a new link to book on a different date.
What could cause the course not to go ahead?
We reserve the right to cancel the course date if there are insufficient sign ups or for any other reason. We will endeavour to notify you 2 weeks before the date of the course with alternative dates.
