Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need any prior HAZOP experience to take this course?
No. This course is designed for people who have never attended a HAZOP as well as those who have participated but want to understand the methodology properly. It starts from the fundamentals and builds to a live demonstration.
How long is the course?
Approximately 3.5 hours of video content across 7 modules, plus a live demonstration (recorded version also available). You can work through it at your own pace — there is no deadline.
Will I be able to facilitate a HAZOP after this course?
This course teaches you to be a confident and effective HAZOP participant, not a facilitator. If you want to develop facilitation skills, the HAZOP Leader course is the next step. If you commission HAZOPs and want to improve how you buy them, the HAZOP Buyer course covers that.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes. You receive a Certificate of Completion with 3 CPD hours once you finish the quiz and course feedback.
What industries does this apply to?
HAZOP methodology applies across all process industries — oil and gas, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, energy, water treatment, and any operation handling hazardous materials. The principles are universal.
What should I do after this course?
The natural next step is the LOPA course, which teaches you how to evaluate whether the safeguards identified in your HAZOP are sufficient. Together, HAZOP and LOPA cover the full hazard identification and risk assessment process.
